Working on a lot of things, here!! How about you!??

I have insomnia, as some of you know.  So...what to do when you cannot sleep?  I cut out quilt pieces!  It is quiet, and I get a lot done, late at night, with just the night sounds to keep me company.  Above is one of the kits I cut out.  I have enough plaids cut out for 80 stars.  All plaids!  I will probably change the pinwheels, but they are fun to look at in the meantime.
And...I am hand quilting this quilt.  I love the slow, repetitive motion of needle through cloth.  Soothing, and I love the effect!!  Are you a hand quilter, at least with some projects?

What you are doing today!??

A shout out to Edie, who left such a nice message, but is a no reply blogger...thank you!

Have a great one, whatever you are up to!!!

It must have been in the air--I couldn't sleep last night either!! So I sewed up some little squares by hand...in some old fabric that I sun screened years ago and
never knew what to do with....my Dh sent me back to bed at 5:30 a.m.
I love your plaid stars--so nice and comforting...
Glad i have stuff to do at night instead of just "eating!!" =))))...hugs, Julierose

I stay out of the sewing room, late at night, when I can't sleep. That is when I tend to make lots of errors. For some reason, I can't seem to get started back on my projects, after being gone for over 3 weeks. I am doing some embroidery today.

I have lots of projects in the works right now: four on the knitting needles and three sets of quilt blocks.

When I can't sleep, I get up and read for a bit - works every time.

I've been working on a hand quilting project right now. The weather has turned cold today so having it on my lap was made me extra cozy. Hope the sand man comes your way soon. You must have every plaid ever woven! Your collection seems never ending. Lovely stars.

I've been busy too but mostly not with quilting stuff. I always try to sew even just a few seams each day. I currently have 12 QOV's in the works and I'm pumped at where I'm at with several..soo close! It'll be awesome when they're all with the longarmer and hoping maybe I can pawn off a few for binding. We'll see!!

I suffer a good bit with insomnia. Usually I'm too tired to be able to risk cutting fabric. ;-)

And I hand quilt exclusively. For the reasons you mentioned.

Whether or not I have insomnia, I often enjoy the late, quiet hours for quilting.
Love those plaid stars. I think the pinwheels are cute with them. Are you thinking of dismissing them because they are not plaid?

I LOVE those stars!!! I do love to hand quilt, though I've not done any for a year or so. I always hand quilt our children's wedding quilts (3 down, 1 to go) and each grandchild's first quilt (3 finished, more to come I'm sure!) I'm usually one that can sleep through anything, anytime, anywhere, but occasionally when I can't sleep, I always retreat to my sewing room and work - seems when it is quiet and my hands are busy, I have such a good visit with the Lord!!

Blessings and hugs!

Dear Julie,
love your plaid stars and pinwheels, and I love handquilting.
You are quilting on a wonderful and lovely quilt. It is a treat to look at.
I was hand quilting this morning before work, then I will do some applique and some machine sewing. A lot going on at the moment. Can tell it is getting closer and closer to Christmas.
Greetings,
Sylvia

love your plaids. when I cant sleep I too go to the sewing room. I usually sew up a bit (my room is at the other end of the house and wont disturb) or sometimes I hand quilt or knit. that quiet time helps me reflect on things and get things done. seems to help "allow" me to then rest

Insomnia. Oh, my! I don't think I could handle that!

Yes I am a big hand quilter myself--and like you love the feel of fabric in my hands and the needle going in and out making small stitches ( at least I do try to make small stitches, but sometimes the needle has a different idea!!!)I do not use a hoop or frame either!!
am working on hand quilting that tall tall Christmas tree that is paper pieced that I made last fall---
love your projects-

I've got a quilt to finish hand quilting ASAP. The baby came three weeks early!! I've never experienced insomnia (knock on wood). On one hand, I lament all the hours "wasted" sleeping when I could be CREATING! But on the other hand, I LOVE going to bed! You continue to inspire me with all your projects. My current WIP on the design wall is that quilt you have in your header. I love it, but it is slow going for me with multiple other projects going on simultaneously.

Always a few in progress. Right now, one to hand stitch the binding, one that needs the binding attached, 1 hexie project, 1 tumbler project, 1 other quilt in progress, several that need quilting and I'm going to cut and, hopefully, sew some bags today for foster kids to carry their belongings in when they get moved. That last one is a project through our church to help out the foster care system. And in my mind? Oooh, too many to even mention! You always inspire me!

I am working on many projects. Not making a lot of headway on any one particular project but am accomplishing a lot. I decided one quilt project can go to someone else. When I pulled out the fabrics and started to prep, I decided that the fabrics just aren't me.

I'm always working on too many projects! It's a sickness. Your Applique is Awesome..I love to hand quilt too.

Great stars - you just can't go wrong with all of those plaids! Love your hand quilting project too. I always have a quilt in the hoop, but don't get to it as often as I would like. I need to stop making so many wool applique projects and use that stitching time to work on hand quilting.

Darn, sorry sleep is so elusive, but you are doing wonderful things with those plaids! I love hand quilted quilts, but have done very little of it. I never am happy with the results when I try. :( If mine looked like yours, I'd for sure be doing more of it!!

I love sawtooth stars - you can't go wrong with those. I also have sleep issues, but mine are in the AM. I wake up and can't get back to sleep, so I usually am up no later than 5:00 and I love to sew (and blog) then. It gives me a good start to the day.

When I get back from my trip it will be time to take out my Cherry Tree quilt and start in hand quilting again. I do enjoy it once I get set up. And I like to quilt small/doable pieces.
Cute little stars!!

I love the stars with the pinwheels.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. I did start quilting again, probably a good thing since I'm going to my bi-annual quilt camp in 7 days. My yard work is all done, as they were predicting snow for us last night. (Alberta, Canada) Now I just have to decide what I might want to work on. Your plaid pinwheels are inspiring me to work on my drunkards path cushion tops I wanted to make as Christmas gifts for my family from my Dad's shirts. (Passed away last Dec.) I love to hand quilt, as I too love the feel of needle in fabric, but I'm not very good at it, and it takes me forever to quilt anything. Practice makes perfect though "they" say. LOL

I, too, own mountains of plaids! I think that your stars look quite fine with the pinwheels. Not a hand quilter here, but I admire those who do...

Puffins and purples!!

I was tempted by Puffins...a squirrelly breed!!  LOL!  This fabric was shared with me, and I have been loved these bright, candy corn colors...
